It is used in other films, including a similar arrangement in the movie "downfall" from 2004. The track entitled "nixon's walk" is listed as being written by michael kamen. The original piece includes a female vocalist and I highly recommend finding a copy of it as it is even more beautifully dark than Kamen's string arrangement. However, it is merely arranged by him. The piece is (in english) called "when i am laid in earth" by Henry Purcell and was written in the 17th century. In reviewing the whole soundtrack, I loved it and thought it was appropriate throughout. Some of the best music ever written for tv and on par with any great war film score.
"Band of Brothers" is the soundtrack accompaniment to the HBO Miniseries "Band of Brothers", produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and based on the book by World War II historian Stephen Ambrose. The twenty selections on the DVD, nearly all orchestal pieces, were composed and conducted by Micharl Kamen. They are the sometimes stirring, sometimes introspective background to the journey of E Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, from its formation at Tacoa, Georgia, to its staging area in Britain, through battles in Normandy, Holland, Bastogne, and Germany, and finally to occupation duty in Austria at the end of the war.Fans of the miniseries and the book will enjoy this excellent music DVD as a reminder both of a superb achievement in television and of the heroes who inspired it.
Hauntingly beautiful reminder of the horrors of war. Enjoyed the mini-series and wanted to have the music. Found that the soundtrack CD was beautifully orchestrated and it gave me the same enjoyment as watching the movie. The big enjoyments came from the 3 suites (one is almost 10 minutes long). The minor tracks on the CD were a little repetitive.
Best war movie I have ever seen. I have already watched it three times since buying it a month ago.
This soundtrack, like the HBO's miniserie, is fantastic. Make that you will want the serie.
